Every scientific work needs a proper theoretical foundation. Because either we want to use the theory to investigate a problem occurring in practice, or we want to develop our own theory or better understand a completely new topic.
Find Theoretical Foundation for your Own Work
The (audio) book “The Model Thinker: What You Need to Know to Make Data Work for You”* provides a good overview of which theories exist and how a suitable theory can be found for your own theoretical foundation. The book “Wirtschaft in 30 Sekunden: Die wichtigsten Theorien zur Ökonomie”* offers an overview of theories that are suitable as a basis for economic work. A pure overview with 50 theories can also be found in the blog post “The 50 Most Important Economic Theories”.
If you also have to struggle with the challenges of a dual study program, many more questions are raised. I can recommend the following book: Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten im dualen Studium (you also have access via our FOM VPN). Chapters 2.2.1-2.2.5 are particularly interesting.
