About Me

Prof. Dr. Alexander Zureck, MBA

I Am a Professor of General Business Administration with a Focus on Banking Finance at the FOM University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, and in My Work, I Combine the Roles of Financial Expert, Scientist, Coach, and Consultant. My Focus is on the Digital Transformation in the Financial Sector, where I Combine Practical Solutions and Sound Knowledge from Teaching, Research, and Consulting. Financial Education for Young People is of Particular Concern to Me. My Goal is to Protect Them from Risks Such as Over-Indebtedness and Poverty in Old Age and to Prepare Them for a Financially Secure Future.

“Shaping the Future: Connecting Finance, Digitization, and Personal Growth in a Practical Way.”

Why Me?

In a world that is constantly changing, we need one thing above all: flexible and innovative solutions. As an experienced financial expert and science practitioner, I seamlessly combine theory and practice to achieve tangible results. My focus is on digital transformation and the associated challenges – especially in the financial sector, but also in other industries.

What sets me apart from others is my deep understanding of the needs of my clients. I work in a practical and solution-oriented manner, whether it’s advising medium-sized companies, supporting start-ups, or coaching executives. My goal is to develop strategies together that not only look good on paper but also stand the test of time in the real world.

Through my own entrepreneurship, I have gained an additional perspective. During our parental leave in Hawaii, I built a small business that gave me valuable insights into fast, focused action and the challenges of entrepreneurship. These practical experiences flow into my work and help me to support my clients in achieving their goals efficiently and sustainably.

My Background

From the beginning, my professional career has been characterized by the combination of practice and academic training. Even as a student at Schalke 04 in the Arena, I learned how confident appearance and effective conflict management can make a difference – skills that still accompany and shape me today. These early experiences laid the foundation for my career.

Since 2012, I have been supporting founders and medium-sized companies as a coach and consultant in realizing their visions. My first clients include a golf instructor who now runs a successful golf school and an advertising agency for online marketing that is sustainably successful despite market changes. These success stories show how important a well-thought-out strategy and targeted advice are. My work includes the development of new business models, professional development, and the long-term support of my clients.

At the FOM University of Applied Sciences, I am a module leader and support the Dean’s Office BWL II and the Institute for Strategic Finance (isf) as a scientific coordinator. I have also administratively managed the doctoral program in the International Office for many years. Here, I combine my passion for teaching with practical research and specifically promote the academic and professional development of my students.

Financial education for young people is of particular concern to me. With innovative approaches such as gamification, I teach complex topics in a playful way to build sustainable financial skills. The positive feedback from my students on my creative and dynamic teaching style motivates me to consistently continue on this path.

In my research, I deal with current topics such as the interface of sustainability (ESG) and artificial intelligence in the financial and real estate sector, as well as behavioral finance and financial literacy in connection with social media. These focal points are not only academically relevant but also socially significant, as financial education is a key to a secure and informed future.

As Deputy Speaker of the Finance Markets Committee in the Federal Association of German Economists and Business Economists and a member of the Bündnis ökonomische Bildung Deutschland, I also contribute my expertise at the national level to actively promote economic education in society.

My roots in the Ruhr area are important to me, and I appreciate the balance I find in sports activities. Whether it’s cycling with my daughter, playing golf, or doing a home workout – exercise and reflection are integral parts of my everyday life. Our parental leave in Hawaii, where we purchased a house, renovated it, and established it as an AirBnB, has shown me how valuable determination and focus are for success. These experiences flow into my consulting work and strengthen my practical approach.

My academic career began with a degree in business administration at the FOM University of Applied Sciences in Essen, parallel to my training as a bank clerk. An MBA and a PhD in Finance Accounting at Masaryk University in Brno have complemented my expertise – I acquired both degrees while working and with a clear goal: to combine science and practice.
